Payment Policy

All Zen Educators are Variable Hours employees, your employment status may be either hourly or day-rate, depending on the nature of your assignment. This means that your wages are based on either the number of hours or the number of day shifts, you work, as recorded by the Zen app and confirmed at the end of the week by our Schools. To be clear, Educators are only paid for the hours or the days worked.

To ensure clarity and transparency, please review the following key aspects of your payment terms:

Employment Status

  • Hourly Assignments: You are compensated based on the number of hours you work. Your timesheets or electronic time records must accurately reflect the hours you have worked and will be used to process your wages.
  • Day-Rate Assignments: You are compensated a flat rate for the day, based on working all hours of the shift assigned. If you work longer hours than intended, please keep records and inform your Account Manager so we can ensure you are paid consistent with state and local employment laws.
    • If you work a shorter shift than originally intended due to a request by the School Administrator, you will still get the full-day rate
    • If you work shorter hours due to tardiness or an early departure that was not previously agreed with the school and your Account Manager, your day rate may be pro-rated based on the hours you worked.
    • If you work a longer shift due to a request of a School Administrator, contact your Account Manager to determine whether your pay will be pro-rated upwards.

Job Rates

Whether you are being paid hourly or a day rate, your rate of pay will always be clearly communicated upfront before you accept an assignment.

School Vacations, Holidays, and Planned School Closures

  • If you are not working during a School Vacation, Holiday, or any other day of school closure (school training, teacher industrial action, etc), you will not work and you will not be compensated for that day or that time.
  • Some educators may be invited by their school clients to attend staff training days - in these cases, this will be paid as a normal workday.
  • Some educators may work over school vacations and holidays to support specific programs. In these cases, this will be paid as a normal workday.

Unscheduled Days

As a Zen educator, you will only be paid for days or hours when you are actively working under assignment. Unscheduled days, including gaps between assignments, do not qualify for pay.

Opportunities for Work

Zen will do its best to provide work opportunities that match your availability and qualifications. However, the availability of assignments may vary depending on school needs and other factors beyond our control.
