Our Shared Responsibility to Reduce Workplace Injuries
Supporting students and those with special needs involves risks that require your constant attention and effort to stay as safe as possible. Here are a few guidelines to help you stay safe and avoid potential injuries while on the job:
- Keep an eye out for hazards including areas of and broken items. They may or may not be marked. If they are unmarked, inform school site administrators to properly mark and keep staff and students away.
- Do not ever go places not intended for students and staff. If a ball, toy, or similar other item goes into an inaccessible area, inform school leadership and do NOT go and get it yourself. For example, do not go onto roofs, do not jump over fences, climb trees, or go near or past construction-roped-off areas to get something.
- Do not physically touch, lift, or move a disabled child unless you have been specifically trained in safe ways to do so; and, are monitored by teachers or administrators.
- Do not physically intervene in a fight, or attempt to physically restrain a child, unless you are been specifically trained in how to do so with a Zen-approved Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training.
- If you believe your work environment is unsafe; or that you are being asked to perform unsafe tasks; or that your training has not adequately prepared you to perform these tasks safely; you must not perform these tasks. Instead, you must immediately contact the Zen Support Team at 213-516-6054 or help@zeneducate.com.
We are all responsible for reducing injuries at work. Please also notify us if you see students or staff members being unsafe.
