Troubleshooting Push Notifications
Missing Shift Alerts? How to Fix Your Zen Push Notifications
Are you receiving SMS or email alerts but missing out on real-time push notifications? If you don’t see the Zen app listed in your phone's notification settings, you may be missing shift offers.
To get you ready to accept shifts, follow our Reinstall Protocol below.
Reinstall the Zen App
If the Zen app is missing from your phone’s notification menu, a standard update won't fix it. You need to reset the connection between the app and your phone’s operating system.
Please follow these steps in this exact order:
- Delete the Zen App: Long-press the Zen icon on your home screen and select Delete or Uninstall. This ensures all old temporary files are removed.
- Restart Your Device: Turn your phone completely off. Wait 30 seconds, then turn it back on. This clears your phone's memory of the old app settings.
- Reinstall Zen: Visit the App Store or Play Store to download the latest version of the Zen app.
- The "Sync" Period: Open the app and log in. Keep the app open on your screen for 1–2 minutes without switching to other apps or locking your phone. This allows the app to register itself with our notification servers.
- Accept Permissions: When a pop-up appears asking for permission to send notifications, tap Allow.
- Verify Settings: Go to your phone's Settings > Notifications > Zen and ensure the Allow Notifications toggle is turned ON.
Still Not Getting Alerts? Check These Settings
If you’ve completed the reinstall and still aren't receiving pings, your phone might be blocking them to save battery or "quiet" your device. Check these three areas:
1. Focus & Do Not Disturb
Ensure that Do Not Disturb or Focus Modes (like Sleep or Work) are turned off. These modes are designed to silence all incoming banners, which will prevent shift alerts from appearing.
2. Low Power Mode
When your battery is low, your phone may enter Low Power Mode. This often restricts "Background App Refresh," which can delay or block shift notifications. Try disabling this in your Battery settings to see if performance improves.
3. Background App Refresh
For Zen to send you real-time alerts, it needs permission to check for data even when you aren't using the app.
- iOS: Go to Settings > Zen > Toggle Background App Refresh to ON.
- Android: Ensure "Background Data" is enabled for the Zen app in your Data Usage settings.
4. Keep Your App Updated
We frequently release updates to improve notification reliability. Always check the App Store or Play Store to ensure you are running the most recent version of our app.
