Lactation Accommodation
At Zen, we understand the importance of supporting new parents as they transition back to work. If you need time and space to express breast milk for your child, we’re committed to making this process as seamless and comfortable as possible. Your well-being and your child’s needs are important to us, and we’re here to help you every step of the way.
For up to one year after giving birth to a child, Zen will provide educators a reasonable amount of lactation break time each time the employee needs to express breast milk for their child. Employees needing breaks for lactation purposes may use ordinary paid rest breaks or may take other reasonable break time when needed.
If possible, the lactation break time should run concurrently with scheduled meal and rest breaks already provided to the employee. If this is not possible, additional unpaid lactation break times will identified. Lactation break time will be unpaid, and educators must be relieved of all work-related duties during this time. If you need additional time, speak with your School Administrator or Account Manager.
Educators should contact their Account Manager before their return to work following the birth of a child to identify the need for a lactation area. Employees should work with the School Administration and their Account Manager to identify the location for expressing and storing of expressed milk. Schools will provide a private area on site, other than a bathroom or toilet stall, that is shielded from view and free from intrusion from coworkers and children and within close proximity to the normal work area.
Zen will otherwise treat lactation as a pregnancy-related medical condition and address lactation-related needs in accordance with applicable law
or employees working in a jurisdiction that has an applicable state or local mandatory lactation accommodation law, Zen will comply with all legal requirements, including providing greater or different break time and space accommodations than those described in this policy. Zen will not retaliate or discriminate against an employee for requesting lactation breaks, or filing any sort of compliant or instituting any proceeding under or related to the federal Fair Labor Standards Act.
